Robert Frazier is currently in his first year as a Cafritz Young Artist with Washington National Opera where he will make his WNO debut in the titular role of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro on November 15th as part of the Young Artist performance. He recently graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music, where he earned his Master’s degree studying under renowned bass-baritone Mark Schnaible. A versatile performer, Robert’s operatic repertoire includes many Mozart roles, such as the title role in Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Alfonso and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, and Sarastro and Sprecher in Die Zauberflöte. Other roles include Harašta and Parson/Badger in Příhody lišky Bystroušky, Pandolfe in Cendrillon, and Marquis de la Force in Dialogues des Carmélites along with many others. He has also premiered contemporary works, including Rory in John Carroll’s Troubleshooting and Iorwerth in Leigha Amick’s Rhiannon’s Condemnation. In concert, Robert has performed major choral works, including Mozart’s Requiem, Fauré’s Requiem, and Handel’s Messiah. Recent summer engagements include performances with Des Moines Metro Opera, where he sang the roles of Cappadocian in Salome, Jimmy O'Donnelly/Mr. Carhart in the world premiere of American Apollo, covered Golaud in Pélleas et Mélisande and sang highlights of Don Giovanni in their Stars of Tomorrow concert. He also participated in the prestigious Ravinia Festival in Chicago. Notably, Robert recently revisited the title role of Le Nozze di Figaro under the baton of Nicholas McGegan for the Curtis Institute’s centennial celebration. This summer, he will join Wolf Trap Opera, performing Antonio and covering Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro, as well as portraying Thierry/M. Javelinot in Dialogues des Carmélites and covering Escamillo in Carmen.
